When people ask me how long I have been a photographer, I always feel the temptation to say "since I was 9 years old". I have been a Professional Photographer since 2004, but have working up to this level my whole life.
When I started Litchfield Hills photography, I got all my ducks in a row. I have no tolerance for professionals who do not set up their businesses that way (a website does not a professional make...). I began by getting a business name registered, tax ID numbers, lots of reliable professional equipment, and joined professional organizations who have a strong code of ethics and had plenty of education for me to continue growing into this ever changing field. I soon earned my CPP degree through the Professional Photographers of America, a distinction held by only about 5% of all Professional Photographers.
I also became an Executive Board member of the Connecticut Professional Photographers Association, and remain on the board to this day. These are great photographers who have become dear friends, travelling companions, associate shooters and bestowers of invaluable help and advice. If you are a photographer and have not joined this group, you are missing out!!
I think that's as far as my rule following goes - when it comes to photography, I like to break the rules! I like people who want to be rule breakers with me!! I think that is why I love Senior High School photography the most! I'm always trying to step outside of the box...and they follow me! I am in the process of bringing my Corporate world into this unexplored territory - stay tuned! Weddings and families can follow me outside the box too - check out some of the images in our galleries to see some cool ideas! - Jill Davenport CPP
